Choosing the Perfect Coffee Percolator for Coffee Connoisseurs

Choosing the Perfect Coffee Percolator for Coffee Connoisseurs

by: Janey Robinson

More and more people rely on a coffee percolator for a perfect cup of coffee. Not only because of its size, but also the speed of which you can make a cup of coffee. Persistent brewing at 1 cup of coffee per minute is quite common nowadays. Speed and great taste. Now what other reasons do you need to convert?

Now, I won't go into much detail about how it works. As the name implies, it percolates ground coffee to get perfect coffee. Some people prefer the taste of coffee that has gone through percolation than anything else. That's why coffee percolators still have a following, besides that they are much more economical than any brewing machines.

There are three versions of coffee percolators, namely stovetop, electric and microwave. Stovetop percolator is the hardest to use of all. Care should be taken not to overheat as it may produce bitter coffee. Unless, of course, you watch and monitor it continuously.

Electric percolators produce consistent coffee. Just plug the cord into the electric outlet and you are good to go. In a few short minutes, your coffee is ready and it switches into warming mode. It will stay warm and consumable for long time. This model is preferable as there is little room for mistakes.

Microwave percolators are arguably better but they do come with drawbacks. Making coffee in microwave consumes less energy. Compare to coffee makers of similar size, they use 42 percent less electricity. The drawback with such type of percolator is that you have to adjust the microwave timer right to avoid spoiling the entire brewing process.

Besides functions, modern coffee percolators should be nice to look at. Some people prioritize this highly. On the table top, they should look great. Besides portability, size is a factor many people would consider. Nothing compares to its convenient when it comes to dimension.

Capacity is one of the most important things to look at when choosing the right coffee percolator. Various brands manufacture units that can make 4, 8, 12 or even 20 cups of coffee on one go. Also pay attention to the features and functions.

Easy detachable cord, for instance, may not seem like an important feature. When it's easy to detach a cord, especially when the unit is hot, it makes the whole experience much better. Firm and well-designed handle let you handle the unit much easier.

A quick tip when shopping online is to pay attention to user reviews. Don't merely trust what other people put out online though. Personal reviews can be very subjective and may not reflect your situation. There is no such thing as a perfect percolator. No matter what they do, they can't satisfy everyone. More importantly, pay attention to the details of the product because a percolator is going to last for years.
