FBI Wants ISP’s to Keep Log Files of Web Sites Visited

The FBI and state law enforcement agencies wish to have the Internet service providers keep log files of every web site a person visits for two years.

Executive Summary – The FBI and state law enforcement agencies wish to have the Internet service providers keep log files of every web site a person visits for two years. Many of us believe this is already in place with the big isp’s but it is hard to pin them down. The FBI is petitioning Congress to pass such a law. One could of course use an Internet anonymizer service or proxy to prevent the ISP from seeing any web sites visited except the proxy. The data would all be encrypted. They may make the use of such a service illegal or force such services to keep log files. Technically they are not an ISP since an ISP gives one an onramp into the Internet. They need to have the user already online to log into their service. One really has to read the actual law to see how bad it will be and of course no actual law has been passed yet. Normally the laws they pass to control the Internet are ineffective.

Email Privacy Invasion – In a related matter law enforcement authorities are trying to get the USA ISP’s to create a special web access portal for them with the intent being to enable law enforcement to be able to read emails. The idea is they access a special portal or gateway for a large email provider and then can access any email account freely without needing any passwords, search warrants etc. The abuse potential will be massive. This will drive people to use email services out of the USA and they will also use encryption. One must bear in mind that even if you sue email services out of the USA those in the USA you send email to be vulnerable.

Government and Internet – The Internet will eventually be the end of the government. Through the Internet information exposing the Federal Reserve System and other tyrannical abuses is brought to light. First they will eliminate privacy, think the banking system. Next when this doesn’t work they will try other methods. Think bailouts resulting in government ownership so they can have complete control. They are at war with the Internet.
